About Donnybrook
Donnybrook is known as the heart of apple growing in Western Australia. Just over two hours south of Perth, the town sits between Boyanup and Kirup and is loved for its rolling orchards, heritage buildings, and leafy avenues lined with English oak trees.
The climate here is Mediterranean, hot, mostly dry summers and cool, wetter winters, making it an ideal location for both fruit growing and outdoor adventures.
A Rich History
European settlement began in the 1840s when pioneers, including George Nash, named the district Donnybrook after their hometown in Ireland. Later in the 1890s, a short lived gold rush brought miners and prospectors to the area, though agriculture soon became the town’s true foundation. By the early 1900s, Donnybrook had already grown into a thriving community.
Apples & Agriculture
Donnybrook’s orchards have been central to its story for over a century. The first apple trees were planted in the early 1900s, and by the post–World War I era, apple-growing was booming. Today, blossom season in spring is breathtaking, while the March to May harvest draws both locals and seasonal workers to the region.
Alongside apples, Donnybrook is also well known for its beef, wine, timber, and dairy industries – making it one of WA’s most productive rural towns.
